Enthusiastic attendees visited our booth to engage with interactive demonstrations and learn more about the fascinating technology behind green screens and virtual production techniques.

Berkeley City College is making significant advancements in virtual production, as evidenced by the recent installation of a backscreen projection system. Spearheaded by faculty member Mary Clark-Miller, this exciting development promises to enhance the creative capabilities of students and faculty alike.
Chris WIngler, a student at Berkeley City College, is currently developing their first project in the MM/AN 022A Layout and Lighting course. Using Unreal Engine, they’re integrating AI Sora to create dynamic TV screens on the stage backdrop.
Ninette is a returning career changer – started off work life as a registered nurse – after deciding to change direction she took some online classes and found herself drawn to technical Art field taking rigging and coding classes online before joining the Berkeley city college family and signing up for Animation and virtual production certificates.
In this project, Justin Mead explores motion-captured dancing using full-body suits and OptiTrack cameras, recording data onto the UE5 sequencer. With a completed video and a proof of concept, he plans to experiment with different dance styles, multiple performers, and integrating green-screened shots.

“Night Bog” by David Woodard, a student of Berkeley City College, offers an immersive journey. Utilizing Unreal Engine 5.2, David adeptly constructs a mysterious narrative where viewers embark on an eerie POV-style journey through the towering grasses of the bog.
Sahra Bhimji and her Virtual Production class recently visited KPIX San Francisco, immersing students in the cutting-edge world of virtual production. The trip offered students a firsthand look at how this technology is reshaping television news, including interactive sessions with industry professionals and the opportunity to see themselves on the “real-time” weather set and map.
In an electrifying session hosted by the RVPA, industry leaders Rebecca Perry and Evan Cervantes of Lux Machina took center stage to illuminate the burgeoning realm of virtual production and its vast array of industry roles.
Ohlone College has recently unveiled its latest addition – a colossal green screen studio measuring an impressive 24’7” by 21’.
RVPA students participated in SMPTE’s February meeting at Goal Line Productions. The SMPTE San Francisco Section welcomed SMPTE members, Visual Effects Society members, media students, and faculty to explore the largest sound stage in Northern California, featuring a massive 106-foot-wide LED set for virtual production.

The Regional Virtual Production Academy (RVPA) stole the spotlight at this year’s Fanfest in San Francisco, captivating over 50,000 enthusiasts in comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, gaming, and cosplay.
Dallas Drapeau, a skilled professional in the digital arts and interactive design, discusses his role in virtual production for movies like Mandalorian and Avatar: The Last Airbender. He highlights the evolution of his career from lighting artist to creating full environments. The conversation covers his journey, the importance of continuous learning, and advice for aspiring professionals in the industry.
The programmer Warren Davis was the person responsible for designing the original Q*Bert arcade game, working alongside graphic artist Jeff Lee, and audio engineer David Thiel at Gottlieb.
Our November Tech Talk (11/16) highlighted a recent foundation-funded initiative that connects current and prospective students with employers for paid career-based learning in the film industry through virtual production. The virtual production sector is an emerging technology in many industrial sectors, including health and sports.
