Information Communication Technology – Digital Media
The ICT-DM sector spans the Bay Region’s 28 community colleges and represents the region’s largest CTE enrollment base, with ICT-DM students accounting for more of the region’s CTE headcount than any other sector at over 50,000 students in 2025. Programs range from artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, computer programming and IT support to digital media, graphic design, and applied photography. Many of the skills taught in this sector are vital to a variety of industries and occupations: Artificial Intelligence, Audiovisual Technology, Cloud Computing, Computer User Support, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Network & Systems Administration, Office Tech/Office Computer Applications, and Project Management.

Key Initiatives
Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (AIDA)
Since its inception in 2022, the AI (formerly AI & Data Analytics) RJV had collaborated with AWS, Intel, Google, and Stanford to develop curriculum and PD opportunities. Building on those successes, the project aimed to advance the AI initiative in several key areas: securing AI discipline recognition with the ASCCC by supporting the implementation of AI curricula in additional BACCC colleges, enhancing professional development offerings, and fostering stronger industry and employer engagement within the region.
Netlab+
BACCC Netlab+ provides students with free, 24/7 access to networking labs, virtual machines, and course content, all through the browser, no hardware required. Established in 2015 through a Bay Area Regional Joint Venture, the platform supports instructors across disciplines including networking, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, with thousands of labs available to build or supplement curriculum.
Bay Area Summer CyberCamps
The Bay Area Summer CyberCamps program engages grades 8–14 students in hands-on cybersecurity learning through a network of 18+ college and school partners across the Bay Region. Offering Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced, and All-Female camp tracks, the program builds a pipeline of cybersecurity-ready students into community college ICT pathways while connecting college student camp technicians and teaching assistants with real workforce opportunities. The program also sustains a year-round Bay Area Cyber League competition structure that keeps students engaged beyond the summer.
Laney College Launches the Bay Area AI Center of Excellence (BAAICoE)
The BAAICoE is designed to serve as a regional hub for AI innovation that supports curriculum development across Career Education (CTE) pathways, equitable access to emerging technology learning, and workforce development programs tied to high-growth AI sectors. Additionally, it will foster new partnerships with industry, community organizations, and employers. The Center will also house Pre-Incubator and Launch Pad facilities, providing students and faculty with a dedicated space to explore AI tools, projects, and applied learning.
Regional Virtual Production Academy (RVPA)
Launched through BACCC’s Regional Joint Venture Fund, the Academy brings together five Bay Area colleges to offer a unified, fully online curriculum in virtual production and digital media. This sustainability plan formalizes the RVPA’s transition from regional grant funding to a college sustained model, documents the governance structure that will carry the program forward, and establishes a framework for expanding the collaborative to additional colleges and replicating the model in new disciplines across the region.
Bay Area Battery Technology Curriculum
As batteries become essential across electric vehicles, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing, Bay Area employers need technicians with battery-specific skills. This project will develop a flexible, modular battery curriculum for integration into existing community college programs in electronics, industrial maintenance, and mechatronics, filling a critical training gap and building pathways into the region’s growing battery economy.

Since 2011 the Western Academy Support and Training Center (WASTC) has been serving Cisco Networking Academy Programs in Arizona, California, Nevada, and beyond. They have endeavored to keep ICT educators well informed and provide them with the relevant professional development training that they need.
