Subregion Overview
Santa Clara County encompasses the entire Silicon Valley subregion and is home to roughly 2 million people. Silicon Valley is the global epicenter of technology and innovation where some of the world’s most influential tech companies were born.
Once an agricultural region known as the “Valley of Heart’s Delight,” it evolved into an economic powerhouse anchored by venture capital and industry giants like Apple, Google, Meta, NVIDIA, and Intel. This innovation ecosystem is fueled by world-class academic and research infrastructure. Tier-one universities like Stanford and San Jose State University, paired with an extensive network of community college career technical education programs, create a continuous pipeline of engineering, trade, and executive talent.
Its highly diverse and educated workforce have made it one of the most economically productive and culturally dynamic regions on the planet. Silicon Valley with its mild Mediterranean climate is framed by rolling hills, vineyards, and open space contrasting sharply with San Jose, its dense urban core and largest city in Northern California.

Key Initiatives
Silicon Valley Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (SVAMP)
A collaboration of five colleges, recipients of a department of labor Strengthening Community Colleges Grant. SVAMP is a regional workforce development initiative and coalition created to build an inclusive, industry-driven talent pipeline for the Bay Area’s high-tech manufacturing sector. The initiative focuses on filling critical workforce shortages across semiconductor, automation, and hardware manufacturing fields.
Subregional Industry and Government Engagement Priority
A new priority set this year for the Silicon Valley Subregion is to gather City/County development plans and identify future educational needs. Finally, engage with local chambers and city/county governments to collaborate around industry engagement as relevant to identified educational outcomes.
