North Bay
Subregion Overview
The North Bay Subregion spans Marin, Napa, Sonoma, and Solano counties — a dynamic mix of urban, rural, and coastal communities home to approximately 1.3 million residents.
The region’s economy is as diverse as its landscape: world-renowned wine production anchors Napa and Sonoma, while healthcare, construction, advanced manufacturing, and hospitality drive opportunity across all four counties. Four community colleges partner with workforce development boards, local education agencies, and a rich network of industry partners across agriculture, life sciences, and skilled trades.
Like all Bay Area subregions, the North Bay faces real challenges — an aging workforce, housing affordability pressures, and socioeconomic disparities that make the work of connecting residents to good jobs both urgent and meaningful.
