The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC) has developed a resource guide titled Academic Integrity Policies in the Age of Artificial Intelligence to address the impact of AI technologies on education and academic integrity.
The document provides a framework for colleges to develop and update academic and professional policies in response to AI advancements. It emphasizes active faculty involvement in policy-making, recognizing varying levels of familiarity with AI technologies among educators. To support this, ASCCC collaborated with the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO) and the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges (FACCC) to host a series of four webinars during 2023-2024. Topics included generative AI, its educational applications, productivity enhancement, and AI-enhanced analytics and learning platforms. Webinar recordings are accessible through CCCCO’s Vision Resource Center.
The CCCCO has also introduced Vision 2030, a strategic initiative that underscores the importance of AI in higher education, focusing on equity and direction across community colleges. This strategic approach aligns with ASCCC’s commitment to responsibly integrating AI in education.
Additionally, the resource document addresses concerns regarding equity and accessibility, emphasizing the need to ensure AI benefits all students without widening existing disparities. It encourages ongoing dialogue and professional development to navigate AI’s evolving role in education effectively.
Overall, the ASCCC resource guide assists colleges in thoughtfully integrating AI into their academic policies, highlighting the principles of integrity, equity, and faculty engagement.
