AfroComicCon – Berkeley City College Juneteenth Celebration

The Berkeley City College (BCC) – Regional Virtual Production Academy (RVPA) and AfroComicCon/Oakland Technology & Education Center (AFCC/OTEC) Tribute to Juneteenth celebration is a vibrant and educational event that combines the rich history of Juneteenth with the dynamic storytelling of graphic novels comic books gaming animation and the exciting advances in virtual production.
This celebration aims to honor the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States while engaging the community through art culture tech and entertainment as well as to announce a new partnership between OTEC, (which is a 501C3 that produces the annual event AfroComicCon), and BCC!
Event Highlights:
- A play area for board and card games and other types of games is fun for the whole family or individuals who will enjoy a welcoming space.
- AfroComicCon/BCC Panel Discussion:
Interactive panel discussion Animators Professors and Gaming professionals will talk about the newest tech developments that BCC and other community colleges are implementing in a collaborative group of colleges called the RVPA – Regional Virtual Prodation Academy who discuss what is being rolled out and the significance of Juneteenth at a time when there is still a lot of work to achieve equity for Black and Brown people in our society.
- Live Music Performances
- Virtual Production Backdrop – Cosplay photo shoots
- Art and Comic Book Vendors, non-profits, (black-owned businesses will be featured)
- Free food and beverages.
